Dr John Garside is a product development and innovation specialist with over 20 years’ experience in leading R&D and New Product Introduction across multiple industries. John has an extensive and proven track record of introducing new products to market, ranging from complex scientific instrumentation to robust miniaturised optoelectronic systems to medical devices.
He has a strong balance of technical knowledge and commercial astuteness and will work with the commercial team to develop and deliver winning product strategies and roadmaps. As an innovator, he and his teams are inventors on multiple patent families and John encourages a culture of customer focused targeted ideation, to deliver robust IP backed product portfolios.
John has walked the journey from concept to launch many times and is skilled in leading diverse multidisciplinary teams to develop world class products.
Before joining PrOXisense, John was Head of Programmes, R&D, for Owen Mumford, where his team delivered an extensive portfolio of product development and scale up projects, working with global pharma OEM customers, alongside delivering a growing portfolio of in house funded products.
He previously held roles as Business Group Manager for New Product Development and Implementation at Oxford Instruments NanoScience, leading the development of advanced cryogenics, superconducting magnets and extreme temperature instrumentation. Earlier leadership roles included heading up R&D projects at Marconi, developing the first generation 40GHz optoelectronics and at Bio-Rad, developing semiconductor defect analysis systems.
John holds a BSc Hons in Applied Physics from Brunel University and a PhD in Biomedical Imaging from the University of Nottingham. He has also completed various programmes in Project Management and Product Lifecycle management, Business Strategy and Planning, Voice of Customer and Financial Management.
