CEO and Board Member

Ian joined PrOXisense early in 2019 as Chief Executive Officer. His most recent role was CEO of CENSIS, the Scottish Innovation Centre for Sensing, Imaging and Internet of Things (IoT). CENSIS worked with industry and academia to drive technology-based innovation for economic benefit.

Ian’s mission was to foster innovation and promote hi-tech economic growth in Scotland through maturing and transferring innovative sensor and imaging technologies from the academic to the industrial base.

Ian has held various executive-level roles in industrial R&D, engineering, operations and business development, including EMEA Group CTO and Divisional Director at QinetiQ, Group CEO/Director of the publicly quoted Rood Testhouse International N.V.

He has also worked at US NASDAQ company Pulse Engineering, GEC-Marconi and carried out interim management projects with companies such as LGC Group and IXC UK. He has held a number of statutory directorships in the UK and Europe, including Chair of Verhaert Space in Belgium.

Ian holds a BSc in Physics from Imperial College, London, MSc in Astrophysics from Aberystwyth University and an MBA from The Open University Business School, where he was an associate lecturer. He is currently studying economics through the University of Oxford Continuing Education programme.

Ian is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Physicist and is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, the Royal Astronomical Society and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

He is a former chair of the KTN Sensing Innovation Leadership Council, currently sits on the University of Strathclyde Audit & Risk Committee and is a panel member of both the Fellowship Assessment and Business Innovation Awards at the Institute of Physics.
